Municipal Negligence: Housing Authorities

Housing Authorities are usually municipal corporations. In New York, the New York City Housing Authority is one of the biggest landlords in the United States. And, just like private landlords, the Authorities must maintain their properties in a reasonably safe condition. If not, they may be held responsible for negligent maintenance, inspection and/or repair.

There are very strict requirements and deadlines for bringing a claim against an authority of this type. In many cases a claim against an authority must be made within 90 days of the accident that caused your injury. Failure to meet strict claim requirements and statute of limitations deadlines may prevent you from bringing an otherwise valid claim.
