Colon / Bowel Surgery / Perforated Diverticulitis
A ruptured or perforated bowel is a hole in the stomach, small intestine or large intestine. A ruptured bowel can happen during colon surgery or during any surgery to any of the organs around the bowels when the surgeon negligently perforates (punctures) the bowel or even during a routine colonoscopy. Failure to discover that there is a perforated bowel can lead to devastating consequences including death caused by abdominal infection. There may be malpractice if the surgeon caused the perforation or, if the medical providers failed to discovery and treat the perforation or the infection caused by the perforation.
