Seeking a Cure for Cerebral Palsy

Currently, there is no known cure for cerebral palsy. However, Duke researchers are hoping to change that prognosis. Specifically, researchers at Duke University are investigating whether stem cell treatment may be able to repair the brain damage that results in cerebral palsy. They are hoping that the stem cells found in the umbilical cord that once connected the child to his or her mother may hold the answer to curing cerebral palsy.

Will This Work?

It is too soon to tell. Researchers are working with children ages 12 months to 6 years for a period of four years each. During one half of the study one half of the study's population will receive stem cells while the other half receives a placebo. For the second part of the study, the participants will either receive the placebo or the stem cells - whichever they did not get during the first two years.

Is There Hope?

As a New York cerebral palsy lawyer, I always have hope that a cure will be found for the children whom I represent. As their New York birth injury attorney, I zealously advocate for their full legal financial recovery so that they can pursue the treatment that they deserve.

If your child has suffered cerebral palsy after a birth injury, please call 1-800-PAGAN-911 and speak to an experienced New York birth injury lawyer about your legal options and about how they may affect your child's future medical treatment.
