A recent study published in the American Journal of Obstestrics & Gynecology found that babies born in hospitals during nighttime hours had an increased risk of suffering certain types of birth injuries.*

Specifically, the study found:
  • A 10% increase in neonatal encephalopathy
  • An 18% increase in birth asphyxia diagnoses
  • A 17% increase in neonatal seizures

While the study did not determine the cause of the increased risk, it did suggest that factors such as physician fatigue, decreased staffing, and the lack of senior or more experienced obstetricians present at the hospital during nighttime hours could be potential reasons for the increased risk.

If you deliver naturally then you cannot control when you give birth. You cannot avoid giving birth at night if the baby decides that it is time to be born, and you cannot control a doctor's medical malpractice.

However, you can control what comes next. You can consult with a New York birth injury attorney about what happened during your child's delivery. You can call an experienced New York birth injury lawyer at 1-800-PAGAN-911, regardless of the time of day that your child was born, and get the help that you need for your child's future.
